Hiring a Painter or Decorator

Know what you want:
Collect designs you like and have a clear idea of what you would like before you start to look for a painter and/ or decorator.

Compare quotes from several Painters & Decorators:
This way you can see value for money, and also get a good idea which painting and decorating company best suits your needs.

Ask for Decorating Portfolio:
Ask to see examples of previous work they have done. This will show you the painter and decorator's style and the quality of their work.

Are they licensed?
Check if they are a registered company. Ask to see their license and make a photocopy of it for your documentation.

Do they have references from previous customers?
Many painting and decorating companies have references from previous happy customers. This gives you peace of mind that they are a reputable company.

Discuss the whole process with your painting contractor:
Talk to your painter about what preparations they will make, and the painting process (which paints they will use, priming and finishing etc). This will give you the best idea of what they will be doing.

Is there a warranty?
Some painters offer warranties for their work. Check what this entails; labour, material, damages etc.
